We first study one aspect of the Parshah of Devarim (Deuteronomy Chapter 1:1 – 3:22).
Reflections of Moses in the land of Moab. The first command to proceed to the Promised Land and the rebellion. Mt. Sinai as Horeb. “Torah” as the Teaching or Instruction includes rules of civil and ritual procedure, prophetic teaching and reproof, moral exhortation, and didactic narrative (JPS-Tigay). The appointment of the Chiefs. The refusal of the people to proceed and God’s decree. Seir, Moab, and the battles versus Sichon and Og.
Then after the morning service songs and prayers, we are in one Aliyah with the Torah Reading.
