Congregation Shalom Rav Board of Directors’ Statement on Racism
We, the Board of Shalom Rav, express our deep sadness and anger at the murders of Mr. George Floyd, Ms. Breonna Taylor, Mr. Michael Ramos, and too many other people, named and unnamed, hurt or killed by police and State violence. We mourn the death and violence caused by institutional racism and watch recent protests and uprisings with worry and hope for a more just and righteous future. And, as Jews, we aim to heal the world (Tikkun Olam).
The Board of Shalom Rav stands in solidarity with Black Jews, Indigenous Jews, Jews of Color, and non-Jewish communities of color. We welcome with warmth and inclusion all Jews and non-Jews seeking a Reconstructionist Renewal spiritual home and particularly those who face oppression. Shalom Rav stands for inclusion, diversity, justice, love, and the dignity of all people. This is a time for reflection and action: The Board will continue Shalom Rav’s practices to ensure that all people, regardless of background, feel welcome.
Each person is made in the image of God.
